'American Idol' Contender David Cook's Brother, Who Is Battling Cancer, Will Attend Show This Week

"American Idol" rocker David Cook has not talked much about the stress of being away from home as his brother battles cancer, but it was reportedly that extra anxiety that helped land the singer in the hospital a few weeks ago. This week, in addition to the show's usual elimination drama, there could be another level of emotion. The Terre Haute Tribune-Star reported on Sunday that Adam Cook, 36, boarded a Learjet over the weekend to make the 2,000-mile trip from Indiana to watch his younger brother compete as one of the seven finalists on the show.
According to the paper, Adam, leaning on a cane, waved to friends and family before embarking on the improbable trip, which almost didn't happen when doctors grounded the lawyer's flight earlier in the week after determining that he could not fly commercially due to his condition. He is undergoing chemotherapy for his second diagnosis of brain cancer, which has spread to his spine. Luckily for Adam, who practiced law in Terre Haute until his condition worsened, his friends and a local councilman rallied behind him and arranged for an all-expenses-paid flight on a chartered medical jet, with a flight medic and flight nurse onboard to make sure he is stable. A local radio station also threw in a paid stay in a hotel just across the street from the Los Angeles studio where the "Idol" finalists perform.
The total cost of the flight and medical assistance is nearly $80,000.
"Idol" contender David, 25, is excited about his brother coming, according to Adam's wife, Kendra Cook. "I don't know what he'll be singing," she told the paper, "we've just talked about dinner and hanging out."
The couple had two days to arrange childcare for their kids, ages 5 and 6, and Kendra said the rapid way everything came together was worth it. "It has been an absolute whirlwind," she told the paper. "I'm so thrilled for Adam. ... It's been an awesome dream, an awesome goal, an awesome thought."
While a family friend said Adam was hoping the trip would not turn into a "circus," Kendra said her husband was sick in bed for several days the week prior to learning about the journey and that "the excitement of seeing his spirits lifted so high has been wonderful."
Kendra also told Terre Haute station WTHI that the Cook brothers have been in constant contact via phone and text message in the lead-up to their reunion. A spokesperson for "Idol" had no comment at press time.
David was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on April 1 after experiencing heart palpitations and high blood pressure. At the time, an unnamed "Idol" executive reportedly told TMZ that the singer had been under extra stress that week because his brother had suffered a setback in his battle against cancer.

Switzerland's Samael has evolved from a mine run bleak alloy band into one of Europe's virtually original and innovational metallic element bands by introducing industrial, gothic, and infinite other influences into their extreme sound.

Formed in the late '80s by Vorphalack (guitars/vocals), Xytras (drums/keyboards), and bassist Masmiseim, Samael was heavily influenced by first-generation bleak alloy bands such as England's Venom and Swiss compatriots Celtic Frost. An super raw, self-financed EP called Medieval Prophecy caught the attention of French-based Osmose Records, which agreed to press release the band's first base full-length record album, Worship Him, in 1991. The record's poor production values and unremarkable black alloy did little for the isthmus, just the following year's much more mature Blood Ritual was another chronicle. The album found Samael incorporating keyboards and different guitar textures to their good, and a permanent keyboard player (Rodolphe H.) was drafted presently after.

After sign language with the Century Media mark, the stria returned to the studio with noted black alloy manufacturer Waldemar Sorychta (noted for his crop with Tiamat) to record 1994's impressive Ceremonial occasion of Opposites. Samael began to find their unique voice on this record, combine swirling keyboard melodies with their brutal guitar attempt to create what they called "grisly operettas." The bet were raised even higher on 1996's groundbreaking ceremony Passage, which saw Xytras (today plainly Xy) pickings over keyboard duties as well as programing all his drum tracks. This unlawful mix of opprobrious metallic element savagery and synthesizers resulted in one of the decade's most original and extreme alloy releases, and was followed by blanket touring (including the band's first American shows). After producing deuce albums by labelmates Rotting Christ, Xy reconvened the group to criminal record 1999's Eternal, with extra guitar player Kaos. The album contains even bolder experiments with applied science and confirmed the band's position as forerunners in their field.

REM singer turns to heavy metal

Enigmatic REM singer Michael Stipe is trying his hand at being an artist. A collection of bronze works by Stipe, who studied art at the University of Georgia, are being displayed for a month at the Rogan clothes shop in New York, which opens this week. The bronze pieces, which are not for sale, take the form of Polaroid cameras, a cassette tape and even a clock radio.

Stipe explained that each object represented a crucial, transitional moment: "The radio alarm clock changed forever the fragile state between sleeping and waking, allowing you to wake to your favourite radio station." The Polaroid brought about a revolution in photography, while tapes "altered forever the influence of radio as the individual became their own disc jockey."

Tyson Targeted For Murder In Vengeful Gang Retaliation

A contract was taken out on former boxer Mike Tyson's life after he ordered the killing of the men responsible for murdering his bodyguard, according to witness testimony on Monday in a gang trial. The plot to kill Tyson was planned to be carried out in the summer of 2000, two months after the June death of minder Darryl Baum - the man accused of shooting rapper 50 Cent nine times in May of the same year . Gang member Shelby Henderson testified in Brookyn, New York Federal Court in the trial against member Abubakr Raheem. Henderson claimed that when he learned of the $50,000 (?25,000) bounty Tyson had offered to have their members killed, gang leader Damion 'World' Hardy planned a retaliation. The plot was later abandoned. Raheem is currently on trial accused of driving the getaway car during two killings. Tyson confessed earlier this month he's convinced he will be murdered because he has so many enemies in his life. The 41-year-old told the New York Post, "I already expect the worst to happen... I expect one day somebody'll blow my brains out over some BS (bulls**t). No one gives a s**t about Mike Tyson. Someone accuses me of a horrible crime, others say, 'Yeah, he's capable of that. Mike probably did it.'"

LATEST: U.S. talk show host LARRY KING has slammed reports his actress wife SHAWN is battling anorexia.

Shawn Southwick King, 48 - who has been married to the 74-year-old TV veteran for 10 years - was admitted to rehab on Tuesday (24Jun08) suffering from an addiction to painkillers.

Allegations King suffers from an eating disorder have persisted since photos of her withering frame sparked concerns just prior to undergoing treatment at an undisclosed clinic.

But a source tells the New York Daily News, "She's emaciated... She always keeps a smile plastered on her face - but she is really unhappy."

But a spokesperson for Larry King has denied reports she suffers from depression or anxiety, adding: "She is not anorexic. Nor has she been diagnosed as depressed. She has taken medications because of her migraine headaches that she's had since she was a young girl.

"She developed a dependency on painkillers as a result of being prescribed medication for the migraines."

The TV actress is King's sixth wife and they have two children together - Chace, nine, and Cannon, eight.

Company B was a dance pour down triple put together by Miami-based manufacturer Ish Ledesma. Ledesma had already establish pop succeeder fronting Foxy in the '70s and Oxo in the '80s. Consisting of Lori L., Lezlee Livrano, and Susan Johnson, the trio, adorned with white River wigs and clad in spicy leather, number 1 made waves with the exclusive "Fascinated," which took clubs by ramp in 1986. It crossed all over to the pop charts in the early months of 1987, mounting into the Top 30. Follow-up singles "Full Circle," "Perfect Lover," and "Jam on Me" failed to equal that mainstream success, merely they were gild hits. All were contained on their self-titled album, which briefly charted late that summertime. Livrano and Johnson leftfield earlier recording a arcsecond record album and were replaced by Donna Huntley and Julie Marie. A sophomore effort, Gotta Dance, elicited little response outside the gild world and the end of their output would be repackagings of their hits.

Kiefer Sutherland has hit out at claims he is engaged to his journalist girlfriend Siobhan Bonnouvrier. The pair was spotted together for the first time in New York in April , and speculation they could be heading down the aisle intensified the following month when his divorce from ex-wife Elizabeth was finalised. But the 41-year-old actor's representative insists there are no plans for nuptials with his new belle, the 36-year-old style director of Allure magazine. The rep says Sutherland is "not engaged to his current girlfriend Siobhan Bonnouvrier".
